EASTER IN THE PARISH

Easter in our Parish is a joyful celebration of Christ’s resurrection, bringing our community together in worship, reflection, and thanksgiving. From the solemnity of Holy Week to the triumph of Easter Sunday, we journey through the heart of our faith with special services, prayer, and music. Our churches will be filled with the beauty of spring flowers, the sound of uplifting hymns, and the warmth of fellowship as we rejoice in the hope and new life that Easter brings.

Easter in our parish is a time of deep reflection and joyful celebration, marked by a range of services and events that bring our community together. Throughout Lent, we are following the Diocese of Oxford’s Come and See course, which offers an opportunity to explore faith more deeply in preparation for Easter.

Holy Week & Easter in the Parish

As Holy Week begins, we gather for our Palm Sunday service, remembering Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. On Maundy Thursday, we reflect on the Last Supper, leading into Good Friday, when we walk together in faith during the Walk of Witness through Wargrave, followed by our Hour at the Cross service - a time of quiet reflection on Christ’s sacrifice.

Finally, Easter Sunday is a day of great rejoicing, with services at both St Mary’s and St Peter’s as we celebrate the resurrection. At St Mary’s, families can also enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt after the service, making it a special occasion for all.

Whether in solemn reflection or joyful worship, we invite everyone to join us on this journey of faith and renewal.

Lent: Come and See

Over the next few weeks we want to offer a warm, open welcome to everybody in the Parish to explore the Christian faith, or to look again at the foundations of your faith. This year, the Oxford Diocese invite you to 'Come and See' what it means to be human, exploring baptism through the beautiful pictures of earth, water, wind and fire.  This free online experience is suitable for all ages.

Adults receive daily emails through Lent, with reflections, readings and encouragements. Each Sunday, there's also a video from Bishop Steven, unpacking another aspect of baptism.  For children and young people, you can be sent a weekly email with a film from kids their own age, plus an invitation to try a contemplative practice, if they like.

For more information, please speak to Sarah Whiteside, or visit the Diocese website.
