MUSIC

Music is a way to seek and encourage the praising of God, uplifting our worship and drawing us closer to Him through song and melody

Music at St Mary’s

Music at St Mary’s is dedicated to using the God-given gift of music to enhance worship and enrich the life of our local community. Our vision is to create meaningful, spiritually uplifting experiences through music, while offering individuals the opportunity to develop and share their musical talents within a positive, Christian environment.

Under the leadership of our Director of Music, Peter Dart our songs of praise are accompanied by the refurbished Walker organ plus a regular music group which includes singers, piano, drums, bass and guitar, contributing to a range of traditional hymns and modern songs. These are all appreciated by the congregation who are further assisted by projection of the words on screens via the AV system.

Every Week

Here's what you can look forward to:

  • Sunday Music Group: A talented group of singers and instrumentalists who come together to fill the church with beautiful harmonies, bringing both energy and reflection to our services.

  • A Blend of Hymns and Songs: From timeless, traditional hymns to contemporary worship songs, our music selection offers something for everyone, combining the richness of classic church music with modern melodies.

  • Our Magnificent Organ: Restored to its former glory 15 years ago, our fine organ adds depth and grandeur to the music, providing a majestic backdrop to our worship and special occasions.

Music at St Mary’s is a blend of old and new, bringing the community together in praise and worship.

Exceptional Performances

Alongside our worship and spiritual activities, we are delighted to host a vibrant calendar of musical events that enrich and inspire. Annual concerts in the church feature a mix of local professional and amateur talent, as well as internationally acclaimed visiting musicians. Highlights include performances by APOLLO5, scholars from the Royal Academy of Music, and even our own world-renowned local opera singer. Additionally, the celebrated orchestra of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields has performed in our church an impressive five times in the past decade.

These events transform our historic church into a hub of creativity and connection, bringing the beauty of music to the heart of the community. Whether you’re a lover of classical music, a fan of vocal harmony, or simply seeking a moment of cultural inspiration, our church events are a wonderful way to experience the arts in a unique and sacred setting.
